How long have you been teaching?
I have been teaching childbirth education since 1998, and as a LCCE since 2007.
What was your journey to a career in childbirth education?
I have had a long journey that has influenced my path in childbirth education. You can read my story at focusforyourbaby.info to learn about my present invention project dealing with childbirth education and the use of focal points.
Why did you choose to become a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator?
I wanted to keep up with the research, especially the research from the World Health Organization and information from the Cochrane Library.
How, where, and what do you teach?
I have taught different community childbirth classes and other topics as a Clinical Nurse Educator. Last year I launched my focal point tools business, and I also teach Lamaze at Saint Tammany Parish Hospital.
What or who influences your teaching?
My past observations of women in labor, and the present day questions, of women about to experience labor (i.e.women taking childbirth education classes).
What is your goal as an educator?
To provide encouragement, and to make women feel like they can achieve the birth of their choice.
How do you use Lamaze Resources to support you as an educator?
I love the class handouts, and being able to use the Cochrane Library.
How could you suggest other members receive maximum value from Lamaze?
Attend the Lamaze Conferences, they contain a lot of new and essential information for childbirth educators.
