Newburgh, Indiana, USA
How long have you been teaching?
What was your journey to a career in childbirth education?
After completing my graduate studies, I decided to change paths to become a doula. After a year of doula work, I knew that I wanted to add childbirth education to my offerings to not only reach a wider audience but also to help my clients be more informed.
How, where, and what do you teach?
I teach the Lamaze childbirth education curriculum to families in the Evansville, IN area.
Why did you choose to become a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator?
I chose to become an LCCE educator because of the evidence-based approach of Lamaze and the outstanding resources that the organization provides for not only teaching, but advocacy work as well.
What or who influences your teaching?
My trainer Robin Elise Weiss has been a major influence on my teaching style. She was the one who taught me to really focus on multiple different learning styles.
What is your goal as an educator?
My goal as an educator is for my students to leave knowing how to ask the best questions and where to find good information. I cannot teach them everything, but at least they will be better at seeking out the right information.
How do you use Lamaze Resources to support you as an educator?
How could you suggest other members receive maximum value from Lamaze?
Engaging with the Lamaze community and utilizing the resources available to you is the best way to get the most value out of your membership.
When you're not teaching, what do you enjoy doing?
Doula-ing, knitting, hiking and spending time with my family.
