2017 World Doula Week
Rosemarie DiMare, CD(DONA), LCCE
Where do you live?
Central New Jersey, USA
How long have you been in the childbirth field?
Started my training in 1997 and immediately started supporting women and families.
Why did you become a doula and childbirth educator?
I became a doula after having a doula support me and my husband 21 years ago for the birth of our second baby. It was truly an empowering experience. Shortly after becoming a doula and meeting with my clients, I realized many of the hospital classes they attended did not teach them about their options and choices but rather what was going to be done to them while in labor. I had all this new knowledge that I learned and had to share it with my clients. For several years I created and taught my own curriculum. Once I realized that Lamaze and I shared the same philosophy about pregnancy and birth I knew I needed to be certified by them. Here I am today still teaching and loving every minute of it.
What's your favorite moment from your career so far?
In my 20 years of being a birth worker, there are way too many amazing moments to mention. But one that popped in my head was working with a repeat client on her third unmedicated VBAC birth. Her daughter came in weighing over 11 pounds. What made this birth even more special was that her daughter was my 300th baby. I am blessed to be able to educate and support some of the most amazing birthing women and truly love what I do.
