I have been teaching for 32 years
What influences your teaching?
I am very influenced by best evidence and try very hard to keep up to date. I also enjoy continuously learning more about teaching adults.
What is the quality you most admire in an educator?
There are many but they all go together: honesty, enthusiasm, encouragement, empathy, preparedness.
What is your end goal as an educator?
Healthy couples who feel empowered to make choices and decisions.
Who are your favorite birth writers?
Lothian and DeVries, Simkin, etc.
Who do you consider to be a heroic educator?
I have grown up in Childbirth Education learning and listening to Elizabeth Bing.
How, where, and what do you teach (families/consumers, other educators, other health care professionals)?
I teach Hypnobabies 6 week series of classes for IU Health. I teach Labor Support classes to staff nurses for IU Health and I teach Maternity nursing for IU School of Nursing in Indianapolis. I also work for IU Health 2 days/week doing bedside education for High Risk mothers on bedrest.
